WRCAC Newsletter Sept. 2006 |
New WRCAC Website Launched Starting in mid--September, Centers from around the West will be able to access information about upcoming training, funding, and other information on the WRCAC website. The website is linked to the new website for Safe Passage CAC, (formerly Children's Advocacy Center for the Pike's Peak Region), the Children's Advocacy Center in Colorado Springs, CO that is home to the Western Regional Children's Advocacy Center. WRCAC hopes that launching the website will enable more centers throughout the Region to access information easily, download documents, and apply for grants and training opportunities. Moving toward increased web-based information is a trend not only among the Regional CAC's but also with NCA. This year, for the first time, non-competitive grants to NCA will be submitted online. This trend toward easier access and paperless systems not only saves time and money, but reducing the number of copies made and mailed, is also helping reduce our impact on the environment. Here is the link to the WRCAC website as well as other Regional CAC's and NCA. New information is posted all the time, so check back regularly. www.safepassagecac.org. Children's Advocacy Centers in rural, isolated parts of the country face different challenges than those closer to, or located in, urban areas Those who live and work in those areas will tell you that it is hard to recruit and retain quality staff, not only at the CAC, but with the partner areas as well. Sustainable funding and transportation are other key issues. In spite of those challenges, many CAC's and other programs that serve children have found innovative ways to respond to the needs of children and their families. WRCAC will be hosting a Rural Summit November 16-17, 2006 to look at the challenges of operating CAC's in rural parts of the country, as well as highlighting some innovative solutions that CAC's and other agencies have put into place. More information will be coming soon.
Digital Library The four regional centers have teamed up to create a new resource for Chapters and CAC's wanting access to research on topics related to Childrens Advocacy Centers. A new Digital Library will be unveiled soon that will provide on-line access to professional journals and articles at no cost. The digital library will initially be made available to Chapters as a pilot and then opened up to Accredited and Associate Centers. You will need a password to access the site, but non-member centers will be able to access information through their state Chapters. More information will be coming soon. | | Next Page> |
