Sara’s Story Sara tried telling her mom what “Grandpa” was doing to her, but Mom didn’t understand. “Grandpa,” a close family friend, was sexually abusing Sara every time he visited. Ten months later, Sara’s little sister witnessed “Grandpa’s” sexual assault. Together the girls described to their mom what was happening. Safe Passage helped Sara begin to heal. Through Safe Passage Sara was able to talk about what had happened, she received access to counseling and a medical exam. A Safe Passage Advocate prepared Sara for going to court and stayed by her side through the proceedings.
